Sources & Methodology:
- The percentage of Pell Grant recipients at UC Berkeley is calculated as the number of students who received a Pell Grant in Fall, Spring, or Summer of the Financial Aid Year divided by the total number of registered students during the same time period for both freshman and transfer entrants. This data comes from UC Berkeley's data warehouse reporting system, Cal Answers.
- Pell Grant recipient counts and 6-year graduation rates come from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) at the US Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.
- Regarding the graduation rate data, it is important to note that a large group of Berkeley Pell Grant recipients are missing from the data set because IPEDS is only collecting data on new entering full-time freshmen. All entering transfer students and part-time freshmen are missing from this data.
- Because Pell data as well as peer institution data is released throughout the year, each tab in this dashboard may be updated independently.

- Another source for similar data is the UC Information Center dashboard titled UC Leads the Way in Enrollment and Six Year Graduation of Pell Grant Recipients, which uses the same IPEDS data sources as this dashboard and compiles data from all UC campuses, as well as a broader range of insititutions including the American Association of Universities (AAU) member schools, California State University (CSU) campuses, and a selection of other large state university systems.
