Paul Gray, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

Last year, the Office of Planning and Analysis completed an analysis of the migration of students from their college of admission to graduation.  This analysis examined the Fall 1993 freshmen and transfer cohorts to see what number and percent graduated in their college of admission or other colleges, were still enrolled, or had dropped out.  Our office has completed a similar analysis for the Fall 1994 freshmen and transfer cohorts.

Attached is a comparison of the Fall 1993 and 1994 cohorts to show their entry college, whether they graduated or were still enrolled in their entry or other college, and the number of students who drop out.  There are no significant differences between the two cohorts, except the Fall 1994 College of Natural Resources freshmen cohort had a slightly higher rate of students graduating in other colleges (62% to 72%) when compared to the Fall 1993 cohort.

Also attached is the Fall 1994 cohort analysis.  This analysis specifically provides:

  • An entrants to graduates summary which mirrors the comparison data but is just for Fall 1994.
  • An expanded entrants to graduates summary that specifically identifies the colleges/divisions students graduate from and the number of semesters (time to degree) it took these students to graduate.
  • A migration study that shows the Fall 1994 cohort, their initial college of entry and then the number that remain in their college or move to another college over time from Fall 1994 to Fall 2001.

If you would like more detailed information or if you have any questions about this data, please contact Pamela Brown in the Office of Planning and Analysis (2-7059 or phb@uclink4.berkeley.edu).

                                                                                                Sincerely,
